An Introduction to Logistics and the Supply Chain

Abstract

Oft times I have found that students come into a course that assumes they have knowledge of logistics and the supply chain, but, in fact, lack that knowledge.

This note helps to provide a bridge to those students and improve their chances of successfully completing the course.

Applicable to the Following Courses

TMGT 7200 MIS in Transportation

TMGT 7400 The Logistics Channel within the Supply Chain

TMGT 8510 System Design and Control

Nice, short & sweet. Accurate in my not so completely inexperienced opinion.

NB: it's more than a bit surprising that this is necessary background at this level for anybody seeking a degree related to logistics or transportation at any level. Let alone at the graduate level.

I doubt that many high schools deal with the issue of TLSC (transportation, logistics, supply chain) in other than a cursory way. I would expect that the likelihood of getting an undergraduate with proper exposure is greater.

On the other hand, I met an incoming grad student today who has an undergraduate degree in microbiology. I expect that he will read my note.

This note, of course, arose from a need observed over six and one-half years of teach at the grad and undergrad level.
